Customer Reviews & Ratings

5/5 - by GA

I left my guitar there to be repaired. I was very impressed with the gentleman that is going to do the repairs at this shop. I thought the estimate was very reasonable.

About BCR Music

At BCR, we specialize in difficult guitar repairs and restorations. Store owner and vintage guitar fanatic Greg Platzer is well known for his expertise in restoring anything from dime store Harmony guitars to the holy grail 50s Gibsons and Fenders. Over 25 years of intensive bench time have given Greg the knowledge and skills that are needed to erase the ravages of time and environment (and occasional hack) on your treasured vintage guitar. Gregs years of collecting fine instruments have given us a large stash of correct guitars to use as guides during the restoration process.

In addition to our vintage obsession, we have become a reputable shop for all manner of guitar trauma repairs. Breaks, cracks, separations and the like are all seen and corrected with skill and care. We can figure out what caused a problem and make sure it never comes back. At any given time, you can find several headstock repairs (many that were deemed unfixable by other shops) in progress, soon to be back in the hands of loving owners that refused to give up on an old friend. From an acoustic guitar to an electric bass, a Croation Brac to a heavy metal axe, we have done it all. No job too scary! says Uncle Greg, steaming cup of coffee nearby!

If hotrodding your guitar is the plan, we are ready to make it happen. Greg has designed and consulted with many of the top names in the guitar manufacturing world (some of which have recruited him to no avail!), and the need to improve on the typical has led us to stock and recommend dozens of excellent companies that can add to your playing enjoyment. With his help, pickup companies like Voodoo and Rio Grande have provided us with much better tone enhancers. Small but high quality companies like Pigtail and Tone Pros have benefitted from Gregs advice, and string companies like Dean Markley and DR market products that bear his influence. We can take your guitar and have it exceed your every need and desire. At the bench, equal parts precision handcrafting, old world woodworking, and McGyver style innovation go hand in hand. Refrets that glisten and allow super low action, pickup and wiring harnesses that offer a myriad of useful tones, and multiple tuning machine options keep your guitar where it ought to be, in your hands performing instead of in a case, neglected.

We dont view guitar repair as a mysterious art to be hidden in a secret room away from the customers. Our whole back quarter of the showroom is our repair area, so watching the work in progress is encouraged. We are proud of the consistently high quality work that we do, and dont feel the need to hide the bench in order to keep you guessing. Its not unusual to walk to the repair area and witness the rebirth of a guitar and the silly grins of the staff as a customer gets to start again with a guitar thought to be a writeoff. Artists such as Cheap Trick, Ted Nugent, the whole Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young crew, The Martini Brothers, Bad Co., Robert Cray, Running from Dharma, Emilys Toybox, Geen Day, Aerosmith, Godsmack, Super Suckers, New York Dolls, Kix, Rhino Bucket, Flyleaf, Skillet, The Cult, Blues Vultures (and many artists we cant mention) have relied on Gregs experience to get the job done right. The store has become a tour stop for many world class crews.
